Shopify Engineer — Conversion Optimization & AI Automation (Remote Contract)
Location: New York City (On-site preferred)
Compensation: $25/hr
About the role
Atoms is looking for a Shopify Engineer who thrives on solving problems, building fast, and experimenting with automation.
You’ll work with our Growth and Product teams to improve site conversion, streamline workflows, and bring AI-driven tools to life — everything from smart scripts to fully automated systems.
This is a role for someone who loves to test, iterate, and make things simpler through creative technical thinking.
What You'll Do
-
Optimize Shopify pages and flows to improve conversion, speed, and customer experience.
-
Build and test A/B experiments for landing pages, cart, and checkout.
-
Design automation flows using tools like n8n, Replit, OpenAI API, and Cloud services (e.g. Cloudflare, AWS, or Google Cloud).
-
Create scripts and integrations that connect marketing, customer, and product data.
-
Collaborate with the Growth Lead and UX Designer to implement quick, measurable experiments.
-
Document systems and maintain a clear structure for scaling future automation.
What we're looking for
-
Hands-on experience with Shopify, React/Remix, Headless ecommerce, Shopify Hydrogen, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks.
-
Strong understanding of conversion rate optimization and user behavior.
-
Proven ability to use n8n, Replit, OpenAI, or Cloud platforms to build real automation workflows.
-
A builder mindset — someone who prototypes, tests, and ships quickly.
-
Comfortable working async but aligned with 10AM–3PM New York time for team syncs.
-
Excited about using AI and automation to make human work faster, smarter, and simpler.
Who should not apply
-
Anyone who avoids learning new tools or experimenting with emerging tech.
-
People who move slow or need excessive structure before building.
-
Engineers who don’t collaborate directly with design, growth, and marketing teams.
-
Anyone who can’t align with NY working hours (10AM–3PM ET).
-
Those who prefer routine over curiosity.
