What holds us together: Mother’s Day with Atoms
Mother's day with Atoms
It often begins with something small.
A quiet reminder to take your umbrella before you leave the house. A bowl of fruit waiting in the fridge after a long day. A voice note from your mother that simply asks, “Did you eat?”
At first glance, these moments might seem ordinary, even forgettable. But over time – sometimes years later – you realise how profoundly they shaped you. These small gestures became the thread that held your world together. They were offered without fanfare or expectation, over and over again. This is the kind of love mothers give. It shows up in the background – gentle, consistent, and unwavering. It’s not the kind that demands recognition. It’s the kind that simply exists, like air or sunlight. It is constant and life-giving.
As Mother’s Day approached this year, we found ourselves reflecting on that quiet kind of care. The kind that holds families and even communities together. We asked ourselves: What does love look like when it isn’t loud? When it is stitched into the everyday?
To explore this question, we invited members of our community to share voice notes from their mothers. What we received was deeply moving. There were messages about weather and meals, bedtime and safety.
“Make sure you wear a sweater.”
“Did you eat anything healthy today?”
“Call me when you get home.”
On the surface, these messages were practical. But beneath them lived something profound – proof of a love that never clocks out, never stops checking in. They reminded us that a mother’s care doesn’t always sound poetic. Sometimes, it sounds like a shopping list. But the love is always there.
These messages sparked something in us: an urge to honor those small but powerful expressions of love, not just through words, but through something you can hold, wear, or carry with you.
That’s how Atoms Sparks were born.
Introducing Atoms Sparks
They’re small shoelace clips, designed to represent something bigger. Each pair is a tribute to the invisible ways mothers show up every day. They’re subtle and personal – an everyday reminder of the love that often goes unseen but never unnoticed. To get Atoms Sparks, just pick a pair of Model 000 or Model 001 and we’ll give you the option to throw in Sparks at checkout as the cherry on top.
For us, Sparks are not just accessories. They’re symbols of memory, care, and connection.
For Atoms CEO Sidra Qasim, this Mother’s Day is especially meaningful. As both a daughter and a mother, she holds space for multiple worlds at once.
She’s raising her young daughter, Alif, in New York – a city that feels very different from the place she once called home. As a Pakistani woman raising a child in America, she often thinks about the distance between cultures and the ways in which motherhood becomes a bridge between them.
“My daughter is completely American,” she told us. “But I want her to know the language of where I come from. I want her to understand the poetry, the music and the softness of our fabrics".
For Sidra and so many others, motherhood is more than a role. It’s an act of translation. It’s about holding tradition in one hand and possibility in the other. That’s the same spirit we try to bring to every pair of Atoms: shoes that are rooted in care, designed with thoughtfulness, and built for real life.
The Atoms Gift Guide: Comfort for every kind of mom
We also wanted to make it easier to show that care in return. That’s why we created a Mother’s Day Gift Guide centered on comfort. For the mom who wakes up early to walk her dog. For the one who spends her day on her feet, moving between work, errands, and everything in between. For the one who always shows up for others and deserves something that shows up for her.
Our gift guide includes styles that are soft, breathable, supportive, and easy to wear. Just like the love they’re meant to honor. Because showing love doesn’t have to mean buying something extravagant. Sometimes, it just means choosing something thoughtful. Something that reminds her how much she’s appreciated.
What our team learned from their mothers
As we prepared for this campaign, something beautiful happened internally at Atoms. Our team members from different backgrounds, countries, and kinds of families began reflecting on what their mothers taught them. One person shared, "My mom always says, you can ask the universe for help and it will only come when you are willing to put the work behind". Another said, “My Amma always says: don't keep saving things for later: use your stuff, spend your money, take trips, dress-up well, and live in the present.’’ Someone else mentioned, “She taught me to take care of others—but also to take care of myself.”
It reminded us that Mother’s Day is about more than just one relationship. It’s about the lessons we carry with us. It’s about the people who mother, biological or not, and how their love shapes who we become. It’s about the shoes we step into. And the sparks we leave behind.
This blog is our way of saying thank you. To all the mothers, and to all the people who mother quietly, constantly, and without expectation – we see you. We thank you. We carry your love with us every day.
Happy Mother’s Day, from all of us at Atoms.
